Saphira stood for a long time, looking into the clear waters of the lake that reflected everything with a mirror image that rippled and distorted gracefully with every breath of the wind. She raised one arm-she never liked the two arms out cast gesture-to melodramatic.
Under her breath, she whispered "Reisa Adurna!"
And to her delight, a shimmering arch of water flew spiralling into the air. Twisting her fingers in complicated patterns she made the water dance, light and gaseous like admid the fading sunlight. This was one of her more common pastimes.

Kaldaka had been walking around the lake when she spotted water dancing above the lake, shimmering in it's beauty. Knowing that a mage had to be there to do that, she walked around the lake's edge until she found the mage. A girl, moving her hand in a pattern for the water to take. Kaldaka waited for a bit before saying softly, "Hello."

Saphira felt her euphoria vanish like a darting tongue of flame retreating into its burning embers when the water came cascading down around it. The water twisted once like a buring snake and fell limply back into the the lake, disturbing its smooth mirror surface. Saphira whirled around. "Hello." she said this quite calmly, considering her abrupt movements. But her voice, as always, did not hide what suspicion, power and coldness that radiated.

Kaldaka heard the suspicious in her voice. With a soft sigh, she drew her hood back, revealing her face for the first time. Why did nobody trust her? It could be incredibly annoying. But then again, it was true that she could look extremely dangeorus. Her grey eyes gleamed like gems in her pale face, framed by her black hair. "I'm sorry if I disturbed you," Kaldaka said. Understatement of the year! she added to herself sarcastically. "I really love watching the water dance."

Saphira immediately took the defensive. She heard the sarcasm. "My apologies." she said with equal hypocrasy, "I take it you don't go well with magic. No doubt you would care much more to be sparring with some warrior friends of yours."

Kaldaka sighed slightly, wrapping her cloak around her more tightly. "You misunderstood me," she explained. "If you are going to be rude to me, then I wish I hadn't disturbed you. However, I do enjoy magic, especially whatever spell you were just doing." Forgetting herself she smiled slightly for a moment before sighing again and continuing, "What warrior friends? I have... one, really. And yes, I do enjoy sparring. But only to a certain extent."

Saphira smiled. "Really? Some idiots around here-" she rolled her eyes, "Don't think we are worthy of the swords and arms but really-" she paused, flicking the water with her wrist, "We are. So. WHy didn't you choose my line instead?"

Kaldaka laughed for a moment. Answering the question, she said slowly, "The path of a mage did not seem to apply itself to me. I mean, I love the things they can do, and I think mages are totally awesome, but I'm not really a warrior. I'm a....." she smiled slightly. "A thief in the shadows, yet another one of those shadows that move and live and have being."

Saphira conjured a simple, blue witch fire that resmebled an small marble and played with it, making it swril around her fingers, twsting and turning. "Really? A warrior of stealth. Well, I suppose that is better than just the old burly sort." she smiled very slightly. How ironic. Ha! "Well. I won't force any information out of you as such. I'm just curious. What of your family history? Were they all of the militia?"

Kaldaka's face hardened as Saphira mentioned family. "They are all dead," she said simply, her eyes blazing with an inner fire. "Murdered. My mother was a lady. She never did approve of women fighting, but she knew it was my life. My father was a great warrior, he knew that this was my chance to prove myself. And then they died. My aunts didn't care a tit about my future or my chance to prove myself, they considered it demeaning for a girl to be practicing swordery." She shrugged. "So I ran away. What about your family."

"Well. Mother and Father both died when I was young. 10 I'd say. I inherited both of their...well...empires..fortune, the like. But my uncle. Well. He wanted it for himself you see, and I went to live with him for a while, a few months before I found out he was trying to kill me. So. I...killed him. I had a brother too....but he's...missing. I think. Has been that way for over 2 years." SHe had a htoughtful expression on her face, that was reflected in the water.

Kaldaka listened to Saphira's tale. "It is always hard when those we love leave us," she said softly, looking up into the sky. Her eyes rested on the North Star, Earendil. "My mother always loved that star," she said. "My father as well. When I looked at it, it's like seeing them again, no matter how long they've been gone." She turned to face Saphira. "Those we love are always with us, although sometimes... it's hard to feel."

Saphira swallowed and hid her expression. "Sometimes you don't feel them at all."

Kaldaka's face was sad as she turned to face Saphira. "The hurt is always there," she said softly. "But sometimes, the joy you had with them is harder to find."

Saphira remained silent, but sent a marble like substance whirling into the water, spalshing hard against the surface.
