David walked along the trail. He watched his step along the way. As ice was starting to cover the trail. His brown hair being thrown in different directions from the wind. He ignored the cold that was around him. His blue eyes told others that he was calm, but really he was looking for a temporary place of warmth.
After sometime he couldn't ignore it any longer. He had to do it. He grabbed the edges of his cloak and wrapped himself within it. His breathe seemed as fog in the cold. He shivered with almost every step he took. He was out here searching for his father. It would be more difficult to see him in the mountain tops do to the snow and his white armor.
Nothing was happening. He was told that the mountains were dangerous even for someone of his league. He couldn't decide if that was some rumor or truth. What was the danger, freeze to death? He didn't like the thought of that and shoved it out of his mind. He continued to walk along the mountain path determined to find his father or something.

Tristine sat at the top of the moutain, her eyes on two figures as they trotted up the path. She did not show any emotion as they came but just stared, her cold steel blue eyes watching their every-move. Tristine pushed her long blonde hair from her face and turned, standing up agily. "Hmpf..." she mumbled, rubbing her temples as she paced about. "I wonder..." she mumbled again, thinking deep within. All Tristine could do was think these days for nothing seemed to help her from looking ahead. Tristine sat back down, almost as fast as she had gotten up and ran her hand through her hair, almost a plee for her very own sanity. No one could really tell she was under stress through her naturally beautiful face and simple features, not one could seemingly understand what could trouble such a young and happy looking young woman...they were so naive.

David looked below as he heard a gasp. It was somewhat easier to hear things when you were in higher elevations. He saw the young lady almost fall from the cliff. He was about to jump down when he saw her catch and pull herself up. He figured that she was okay. He turned and continued on the same path which seemed to lead to the mountain peak itself.
David fell on one knee just a short while after. It had been a while and he wasn't properly dressed for this either. He was starting to become hungry and had found nothing of what he was looking for. He got back up on his two feet and pulled out his spear. He started using it like a walking stick. With the sharpened end pointing toward the sky.
It was several minutes later when the temperatures started rising again. It was odd because it seemed to only be in this area. He walked a few more steps and discovered a cave. He entered it's darkness. There was no sign of a fire or anything that could have kept it warm. Just a mysterious wind that came from within. He took a seat next to the cave wall and decided to rest here for a couple of moments. He was fixing to close his eyes when he saw a large movement deeper within the cave.

Tristine watched as he entered the cave, a shot of fear rushing through her veins. "Oh no..." she muttered, jumping down rocks on at a time. She skid on one and cut her knee slightly but didn't even wince, all she was worried about was the person who had entered the cave of the relm of 'the monster'. Tristine jumped down, landing softly on her feet to the beginning of the cave. She quietly walked in, watching the shadow move slightly. She sighed and stood beside it, laying a hand on his should as if to say 'Don't'.

David watched as she entered shortly after he did. He had no idea of what she was doing or trying to do. He did however see her stand next another figure. It wasn't as large as what he saw. What he saw was larger and further into the cave. He figured that it was the source of the hot air that escaped the cave.
David came to the conclusion because it didn't seem as windy as it did earlier. He stood back up and looked into the cave. He was straining to look beyond her and whatever it was she was standing next to. He picked up his spear and slowly started to walk deeper into the cave. It was a split instant that he thought he saw pupils that belonged to a large beast of sorts. He heard the scraping on the ceiling and floor. He thought he felt the ground vibrate slightly as well, but wasn't sure. He walked past the woman and completely ignored whatever else she was standing by.

"Don't" she said, her hand leaving the creature and standing in front of him, her eyes sincere. Tristine didn't talk much but when she did it was when she had something important to say. Her face being brightened by a large gust of flames from behind her, cinging the end of her cloak. Tristine ignored it, continuing to look at him with complete and utter helplessness. "Don't" she repeated, turning and jogging towards the creature.

David took a few steps closer and then stopped. He slowly raised his spear into the air and let the light illuminate from it spread across the cave. He then brought it down quickly when he saw the midnight blue scales. He couldn't believe he was here. He smiled and understood why he was going deeper into the cave. It was because of this woman being here.
David looked at down at her. "Can you keep a secret?" he asked her, "Because right now you don't have much of a choice. He's finally made it here and his kind are very few in numbers. You have to keep this secret or else I'll let him eat you." At those words flames protruded from a source and hit the wall. They extinguished quickly.
David sighed and didn't wait for her to reply. "Bahamut come out here. It's alright. She isn't going to hurt you and won't report you to the city." he called out. The shadow from the back of the cave then turned and started to approach him. It stopped part way and sniffed David for a few moments before laying its head on the ground and allowed David to pet him.
David drew his sword and placed it on a rock that was slightly elavated. It produced it's own light as well and illuminated the darkness. It revealed that in fact the creature was a dragon. He was larger than most and his scales were midnight blue. His eyes were an emerald green with red slit pupils. "So my friend how did you manage to get here so soon?" David asked him as he rubbed Bahamut's head inbetween the horns that were near the back of his head.

Tristine's heart stopped. "You know about him?" she asked, almost demandingly in her soft voice. She laid her hand on her chest and sighed deeply. "My gosh I thought you were here to hurt him..." she said, looking back up at the man. Tristine leaned up against the wall and closed her eyes, rubbing her temples. "Whew..."

"Know him." David replied like if that was an understatement, "I fought him before I came to Avaren. I became a dragoon because of him. I knew that being a paladin would limit my potential. I'm basically friends with him. We are allies. He decided to help me whenever I needed it after that fight. I wasn't strong enough to kill him. I couldn't have even killed a dragon back then, much less the king of them all."
David continued pet Bahamut's scaled head. He then looked up at her. "How did you know about him?" he asked, "And I'm David Augustine by the way."

Tristine opened her eyes and smiled sweetly. "Ah well I found him in this cave and have been making sure no one harmed him, put my watch dog out here makin' sure no one got in here..." she said, watching the dragon with affection. Tristin then looked to the man named david and nodded. "Tristine..."

"It's a pleasure to meet you." David replied, "Um, you didn't disturb him when you found him did you? He usually gets aggressive when he is found out and most people don't live to tell the tale that he exists. Even though I taught him to try to hide himself instead of unleashing his fury." He stopped petting him and took a seat on the ground next to Bahamut's neck. He against it as if it was a wall or some type of cushion.

Tristine shook her head. "I left him be although when I saw flames shooting out of the cave I knew what he was." she said, looking the dragon up and down since she hadn't fully seen it before. "So, David-" she began, feeling a bit funny saying his name let alone alone talking at all. "-What is going to become of him?" she asked, her steel blue eyes now moving to David with curiousity.

"I am his human equal." David tried to explain to her, "Our beliefs are similar despite the fact we are different creatures. Bahamut wanted peace amongst the dragons and other races, but the Queen of Dragons didn't agree. Bahamut banished her and she took several other dragons with her. Tiamat has given dragons the tainted name that they have. As a dragoon I intend to aid Bahamut just like how he has vowed to help me. I will assit him in protecting what is left of the dragon species."

Tristine watched him, appreciation for him growing. "That's so amazing...I am glad someone is doing something for these wonderful creatures." she commented, a smile growing on her lips.

"I know so few of them live these days." David replied, "Bahamut here before I found him had been working on gathering dragons to one location. So they could watch out for each other. Kind of like start a colony for them. I just hope that when they start to multiply that they educate the warriors. And that they find the ancient tales of dragoons to be true." He looked up toward the ceiling and took a deep breathe. Even if he didn't find anything of his father today, he had found an old friend of his.
