Avean had never truley seen the city for what it was worth. She had always passed by on her way to the forest or home but never walked it's path in mind. Avea had a tendency to do that, even in her own home on the other side of the world.
Avean stepped onto the concrete ground, her feet bare. She chose to wear no shoes for it made her one with the earth. Avean walked into the square, taking a seat in the midst of the bustle, her golden eyes sifting through the crowds that passed by. A smile played on her face.

'This town doesn't seem too bad.' thought a man who, to most, would look like a shady character. Perhaps he was, then again, that was the story of one like him. For once his hands remained in his pockets as he sifted through the crowd, choosing instead to inspect the peoples' faces instead of their pockets. One caught his eye, on a bench off to the side of the hustle and bustle, looking quite serene.
His dark overcoat swished about his ankles as he made his way over to lean casually against the wall near her. For a time he simply watched the crowd passing along with her and said nothing. A slight breeze kicked up, ruffling his vagrant black locks, and he pulled his coat closer. 'No shoes? Strange, in this weather.' He had never been good at introductions, and though his mind grasped for something to say his lips remained sealed. Perhaps this little oddity would speak to him first.

Avean looked deeper in the crowd, noticing a man leaning against a near wall. She bowed her head to him and smile warmly. She wrapped her cloak tightly around her and watched the man, wondering who he was.

'A shy one, then.' he thought, 'But she has a kind smile.' She was not much younger than him, at 21 he had been traveling for well on five or six years, but she looked... wise. He couldn't quite place a finger on it. Now he was intrigued.
"A cold day to go without shoes, no?" he said at length, still looking into the crowd but clearly addressing her.

Avean nodded, her golden eyes looking over him. Her smile grew as she stood, her eyes still placed on him. Avean's bare feet making a little patter as she walked towards him. "Why yes..."

He chuckled and ran a hand through his hair as she approached. "Well, I'll be blunt, then, why is it you don't have any shoes on?" he laughed. It was a continuity flaw, she wasn't a peasant from her dress, but surely there wasn't a noble who ever walked around barefoot.
He'd heard there was a high population of mages in this city, and while magic was something he had no talent for and hated to go up against, it still had to make this place more interesting than some deadbeat towns he'd passed through. Perhaps she was a mage?

"I am training to be an elemental master...I am ever trying to be one with nature, however strange it sounds." she said, chuckling. Avean ran her hand over the back of her neck, a sign of nervousness. Her eyes moved slowly down to the ground.

A sparkle entered his eyes as he said, "So, you are a mage, then." he looked at her, staring shyly at the ground, then back the the unheeding crowds passing by. "I've learned to find nothing any magic user does strange. Quite often they're the strangest people I meet." Realizing that comment might sound harsh, he looked at her again and said, "My name's Gilsworthy, i've been... around. I can't say i've met many mages, though." He linked his hands behind his head and continued to lean against the wall.

Avean looked up at him through a curtain of chesnut red hair. "Yes I am a mage...a sorcerer in so many words." she said shuffling her foot on the ground. "My name is Avean, Avean Luxenbourg." Her words were soft yet strong.

'Luxenbourg.... sounds important.' he mused, inclining his head slightly. He gestured to the morass of people and said, "I hope I haven't interrupted your 'communing', if you wish I can be on my way. Or..." he grinned, "We could take a walk. I think I very well might freeze solid standing still any longer." It was the truth, too.

Avean turned pink. "I would enjoy a nice walk...sitting was getting quite boring." she said with a smile. "Where shall we go?" she asked, her cheeks still tinted pink from the cold and other factors.

"I have no idea." he admitted, giving a shrug. "I've not been here for more than a few hours. Somewhere warm would be a good choice." For once he regretted wearing fingerless gloves; his fingertips were numb from the cold. He shoved them deep into his overcoat pockets and kept them their in a feeble bid for warmth. She didn't look chilled in the least, maybe it was part of being a mage. If magic let a person walk around barefoot in autumn, he almost wished he had the talent.

Avean quirked an eyebrow in thought "Tavern?" she commented, looking back at him out of mere suggestion. Avean pointed in the direction of the tavern and shrugged.

"I figured a place this size would have one... Sure, if you know how to get there, lead the way." he said, shrugging once more. She's too young for you, Gil commented a voice in his mind, and he grimaced. 'Be quiet.' he answered it mentally, 'I'm just escorting her for a while, eh? Can't a man be polite?' The voice did not deign to respond. He puffed a sigh then looked back to Avean. He still had a lot to find out about this city, maybe she could tell him a few things.

Avean led the way. She pulled her abnormally long hair over her shoulder and wrapped her cloak tighter around her small body. Avean began to hum quietly as she made her way towards the tavern.
