How Did I Come To Be Here?

[Braeden Afrit]

Braeden felt her sadness through her words, and in turn he became sad for her. "I'm sorry to hear that Evee. I didn't realize you were going through such a loss." Braeden squeezed her hand a little tighter and pulled her closer to his side, wanting to give her comfort around him. He gave her a slight smile before looking out into the distance. He thought about her question to him.

"Well I, don't really remember much of anything before I woke up here in Avaren. Accept my past. Nothing recent. I wish I knew so I didn't feel so lost." Braeden forgot all about his memory loss when he saw Evee. He didn't mind starting over if this is where he got to start his life anew. As he continued walking with her, they came upon a tree that overlooked a hill. You could see the moon closer and see a little village at the bottom of the hill.

"Hey, let's sit over there." Braeden suggested merily. He walked her over to the tree and let go of her hand before he sat down under the tree. Braeden patted the spot next to him indicating that he wanted her to sit next to him.

Evee felt Braeden squeeze her hand tighter and pull her closer which made her blush heavily. 'What's he thinking? Does he really care that much already?' Evee wouldn't be able to understand why, especially because he's having a problem with short term memory loss. Braeden found them a spot under a tree that was over looking a small village and had a good view of the moon.

Braeden let go of her hand and sat down, then patted the spot next to him so she assumed he wanted her to sit next to him. Evee sat down next to him and put her legs up against her chest, pulling the ends of her dress over her legs. She looked up at the moon and hugged her legs. Evee smiled softly, trying not to look over at Braeden and make things awkward. "The moon is beautiful tonight...I haven't seen it like this in a while. Maybe because I stopped taking the time to notice it..."

Her smile faded slightly and she still kept her eyes on the moon. "What's on your mind?" She asked hoping to start another small conversation. She didn't know how long she and Braeden would be talking tonight but she was glad she met him, and hoped that he'd get his memory back soon.

Braeden watched Evee sit down next to him and look up at the moon instead of him. He noticed she was trying to avoid eye contact with him, he just smiled to himself and joined her gaze at the moon. "Yeah, the moon is beautiful tonight." He said sensually to Evee. "I think you should take more time out to notice something that reflects you." He said emphasizing that the moon was a beautiful as she was.

'What's on your mind...' She had asked him. He looked down at the ground then looked over at her with a serious expression. "I have you on my mind Evee." He said with a passionate tone, though he was serious. He put his hand on her cheek and wondered what his response would cost him. 'Why am I so into her? what is it about this girl?...' He thought to himself while he kept his hand gentley cupping her cheek.

When Braeden said that she was on his mind, she soon felt his hand on her cheek. Evee felt a shiver go all over her body. She wasn't expecting this from him at all. She slowly looked at him from the corner of her eye, almost turning red. "Braeden..." She didn't know what else to say except his name. What surprised her more is that she didn't move away when he touched her. Evee took his hand off of her cheek and then held it as she turned to face him.

"Why are you being so, affectionate towards me? We just met..." She asked him in wonder. 'is he feeling love at first sight?' she thought to herself for a moment. Then again, what was she feeling right now? Things were feeling soothing under the moonlight, and the grass was soft under her legs. This night set the mood for romance, but it was so forbidden...

"I don't know Evee, I guess I'm just following my heart." He said rubbing her cheek with his hand once more. "I don't want to come on too strong, I just feel that I can be the one to heal your heart. I'm sure your love was a great man and treated you with much respect and protected you. I assure you if you give me a chance in your life, I can do the same and more. I'll never leave you alone like he did." Braeden was speaking from the bottom of his heart, he was honestly having love at first site with her.

Braeden turned and faced her, staring into her eyes. "When I met you earlier, I had an instant attraction to you Evee, no lies. I know you must be going through alot right now, I just want to be there for you. Be with you..." He said with all honesty. He just hoped that she wouldn't turn him down. He was prepared to do anything for her.

"(gasps)" Evee didn't know what to say. "You can't be serious Braeden....I can never be with someone else, NEVER..." She said to him sadly. Evee would give him a chance if she wasn't so strongly tied to Maril. 'If he's not coming back, then what am I waiting for?' She thought to herself before she stood up and walked forward a bit. "I want to be happy again, I do...I'd just feel so horrible if I was with you and he comes back..."

Evee was torn between her lingering love for Maril and her new affection for Braeden. But would he up and leave her without a word like Maril did? She was wounded heavily by Maril's absence, she wasn't sure if she could love again.

Braeden looked at Evee sadly, wishing she would open up to him. After she stood up, Braeden got up and walked up behind her. He embraced her softly and rested his head on the nape of her neck. "Don't say that you could never be with someone else. Here I am Evee, and you're with me now..." He tried to make her understand that she could start anew, that Maril may never come back.

"I know that starting over will be hard for you, but I'm here for you. I realize that I may have been sent here for you Evee, maybe that's the answer to why I awakened without any memory of what happened to me. The memories I make with you must be what will fill that empty memory space." Braeden wanted to be with her, more now than ever. Just being close to her like this made him feel happy.

When Braeden embraced her, she thought she'd jump out of her skin. "You really think you ended up here for my sake?" She asked him wondering why he was so sure. "A chance to be happy, a chance to love again, yes...But, is it right? Is it really right Braeden?" Evee asked him with tears in her eyes. A part of her wanted him and the other part wanted to keep resisting. She had never been so confused in her life.

"I want you...But My heart will always be partly Maril's, he'll always have the greater half..." She paused "I just want you to understand that...." Evee snatched away from him, and turned around to look at him with teary eyes of hurt. "This is how I am now! A wounded woman! Why would you want that?" She cried. Before she even let him answer her, she turned and ran away from him. 'I have to go home, before I do something I'll regret...'
