'This place is like a damn maze.' thought Gil, making his way around another enormous tree. He'd been talking with some guy not too long ago, he'd forgotten his name already, but when he headed off in the direction he swore he'd come from he'd ended up here instead. Great.
Vines and foliage were blocking much of the sunlight from peeking through to the forest floor, so the dark clad thief had to squint to keep from running into any trees. Quite suddenly, his ears pricked up as he heard another person crunching through the leaf cover. Quickly his skills kicked in and he silently placed himself up against a tree, looking around it to monitor the one coming closer. A woman... one he'd not met before.

"Pretty quick." he muttered, watching as she climbed swiftly into a tree. Grabbing a low branch he flipped himself up then sprung onto a branch near her, his dark overcoat flapping about him as he moved swiftly. "Peace." he said out loud as he landed, swaying slightly as the bough moved. "I'm just as lost as you are." He observed her, she was dressed kind of exotic for his tastes, but a fine figure of a woman nevertheless.

"what!" "i am not lost!" Kay's face turned a mean like way. "i don't know about the peace thing yet.......i will just have to see about u." Kay said with a a smirk on her face. "what are u doing out here all alone?" Kay asked curiously Kay's hair blew with the breeze of the wind. Kay didn't know who this person was or even his name "i must worn u i am hard to get along with" she said with a smirk. she looked strait into the boys eyes.

"A man can go where he likes, eh? All the peasants talk about how spooked this forest is and I wanted to see it with my own two eyes. I met some guy, Haiku? Ryu? Nevermind, evidently he comes out here a lot and I was speaking with him. But now I can't tell which way's what and then I bumped into you. Satisfied? And i'm not asking to get along with you, just to try and find the right direction." said Gil, peering annoyedly at Kay as he balanced there on the high-up tree limb. His eyes looked to either side, but it was all just trees, the same tree copied a thousand times over and it would probably be the same way for a long time in any direction. Unless he was totally turned around.

"ok whatever.......i met Haiku." "that is like to only person that i have met.......exept for u." "i am not scared i was just a little creped out by all of the noses in here that is all." "maybe me and u could find a way out of here together.......what ya say?" Kay was a little creped out by the boy but it was her only way out of here.

Gil clapped his hands and rubbed them quickly, his mind already racing to come up with a solution. "Right." he said, his eyes eventually settling on the canopy above them. "The way I see it, if one of us can get above those leaves we could see straight out to the town, I swear I read it in a book somewhere and it worked like a charm."
He redirected his gaze back to Kay, who seemed kind of worried. "Well, still sitting there? Let's get to it!" he said, punctuating his sentence by springing from the branch to a higher branch, his momentum carrying him ever upward. These oaks were tall... the forest must have been there a long time for them to have grown so tall.

Kay started to jump from one branch to another. she tried to reach the top but, she couldn't b/c it was too slippery on the branches. she fell a few times to the branches below and caught herself thankfully. "i cant reach the top" Kay said with some sort of fear. she was afraid of loosing her balance and falling to the hard ground.

"Then stay there, i'll try and get higher!" called Gil, slowing as he slowly reached the canopy, the brances becoming thicker and more slippery with moss and creepers. Stopping high in a cloud of leaves, refusing to look down the dizzying drop to the forest floor, Gil carefully took out one dagger while balancing with hands out wide. The thief took a deep breath and slowly shimmied up the branch to the trunk, where he withdrew his second dagger and held them both backwards. Looking at them with regret, he sighed and plunged the first in, then used it to lever himself up to strike the tree with the second one. Using them as climbing tools, Gil ascended slowly , eventually being obscured by the thick mass of leaves and vines, until light started to filter in.
All of a sudden he broke through, his head and shoulders thrusting up through the canopy. A frozen wind threatened to scour all the heat from his face, but he squinted and looked around. Not too far in the distance, it looked, lay the jagged range of mountains bordering the kingdom, and opposite them he could see the castle thrusting up into the cloudless sky. "Got it." he said to himself, marking the direction in his mind.
Looking down at his sap-covered daggers, Gil sighed and muttered, "I'm never going to be able to get this stuff off." Ignoring it for the moment and ramming them back into their sheaths, he slid down the trunk to the branch then hopped his way precariously back down to Kay's level, where he perched on another branch facing her. "It's about an hour and a half's journey thataway." said Gil, pointing out over Kay's shoulder. "If you want, we can go together." A bit of moss under his foot slid off, and he nearly toppled backward and only recovered by flailing his arms madly and gripping a nearby branch like a barnacle. "Whew, sorry! So, shall we be going."

"ok" "are u ok and ya we can to go together" kay asked when she was climbing down "sorry that i cant go any higher i tryed but the branches are just to slippery." kay was kinda mad that she couldnt help or go any further up. "so we shall be going now i fwe ever wont to get back" kay slipped and suddenly fell to the ground, she was knocked out for a while.

"Yeah, i'm fine, now let's go." said Gil, quickly regaining his balance but not completely regaining his dignity. How embarassing to nearly fall like some kid in an apple tree, being a well-traveled thief like himself! It was humiliating, to say the least. "Be careful, it's not as slippery as up above but it's still-" he cut off with a yipe as she plummeted past him and crashed unceremoniously into the leafy floor. Quickly sliding down a tree trunk and landing lightly on both feet, score one for doing that much, at least, then quickly crouching beside the unconcious Kay.
"Damn, wake up. Wake up!" he said, slapping her cheek to try and revive her. Nothing. Placing a hand at her neck, the thief breathed long breath of relief that he felt a pulse, at least she hadn't broken her neck. Plus, aside from a few bruises that looked like they might hurt like fury when she awoke, she was fine. "Well, Gil," he said, looking her up and down, "I guess there's nothing for it." he said, running a hand through his messy hair. She was a fine figure of a woman, to be sure, and she certainly dressed more exotically than most he met, but he still felt odd considering what he was considering.
Taking another deep breath, Gil hauled the unconcious woman onto one shoulder like a potato sack, steadfastly ignoring the pleasant smoothness of her skin as he got her in a more comfortable position. "I suppose this is my fault." he said to distract himself, walking off in the direction of the castle. "If I had asked her to stay on the ground she would still be fine. Well, no getting around it. I just hope she doesn't wake up like this. Sheesh, how do I always get into situations like this?" and his voice descended into disgruntled but slightly amused mumbling.

"Perhaps you're fate's fool."
A smooth voice said, a hint of a tease in it. A shadowed figure side-stepped a rather large trunk of a tree and made herself as visible as possible under the darkness of the forest. She was clad in a dark, faded apparel, two layers of billowing cloak spreading out behind as her boots walked her forward. Raising a gloved-with-cut-finger-holes hand to the brim of her aged hat, she tipped it up slightly, revealing one copper-gold iris, set in an inquisitive stare on the man.
A smirk played along her rusty-brown lips as she closed the gap between them so they stood only half a meter apart. Straight strands of cropped black hair hid her other eye from view, as well as the brim of her ever-lowered hat, making her just that little bit more mysterious.
Frowning a curved brow at the unconscious woman over his shoulder, Trixice let a silky hum pass through her lips, before she raised painted-black nails to brush the girl's hair from her face gently. "You didn't knock out the darlin' did you?" She asked squarely, fixing him with a solid-gold stare.
Black and deep maroon tattoo's adorned her jawline and eye, and a rather noticeable necklace she wore had a small skull hanging from it, surrounded by some animal's teeth, and the occasional gold bauble for show. Trixice was quite curious with these two, and she was not about to speak again until he did her the honour of explaining what had happened.
