Taliesin wondered through the forest a bow and arrows on his back and a sword at held firmly in his hand. He hadn’t been training for long and yet he had the confidence and pride to think that he would be fine out their in the dark wood where it is acknowledged to have many unexplainable disappearances and ferocious beasts.
Very little sunlight could reach the soil and the trees stood tall… really Taliesin didn’t have much enjoyment hunting animals for sport but he had been dared by a follow militia student saying that to join their group he had to venture into the dark forest and kill a creature of malice. He knew that they wouldn’t have done anything of the sort but he didn’t want to seem like a wimp. He was only sixteen and peer groups and fitting in were still very important to him.
“Those jerks, I bet they’ll try to scare me, like dress up or something, but it wont work it will just get one of them pierced with an arrow I bet they wont try anything then” He grumbled as removing his Bow from his back and placed an arrow gently in position. There were small whispers from the wind and rustling of leaves caused an eerie atmosphere in which sent shivers down his spine and yet he ignored it as if just nerves.

An arrow narrowly missed his head, hitting the tree just behind him with a resounding, wooden twang. It was a black wooden arrow, with thing, streamlining silver feathers. A second later, Nathaniel dropped lithely out of the tree around a meter or so from Taliesin. He was smiling. "Seems funny how fate seems to make us meet." he said, with good humour.

Taliesin was in state of shock and guilt… he had almost killed him, all because of a dare from a few adolescents. Putting his bow back into its resting place behind him he grinned sheepishly. “Whoa, did you see that runaway arrow, it came out of no where… who ever did that will end up killing someone” Taliesin said looking around as trying to keep his face straight. Then looked back at Nathaniel, he could see he wasn’t buying it but still continued. “I mean it wasn’t me… if it was it would have hit you” He joked. “So seen any minions of darkness… I have to kill one to join the guys in my class”

Nathaniel raised his eyebrows at the youth. There was a stretch of silence. "You know what, my young friend, if you wanted to lie to someone, think of the lie and think of a good one. Also, try to contain your pace of your speech. The tempo is everything. A bit too fast, or too hesistant, the other knows you are lying. Oh, and don't let your heartbeat go to fast. I could hear it accelerandoing in there." he smiled calmly. "Just a few tips."

Taliesin was about to protest but his mouth closed again, how could he comment on that. “Thanks” he mumbled trying to put in a mental note that the truth was much easier. The forest seemed to darken and the birds started squeaking and flew out of the canopy. Taliesin’s blood froze... he wasn’t sure why, cause he couldn’t hear anything at the time a part from the birds that is. “Is there any monsters in here” He asked trying to keep himself brave but the almost killing of his friend had shaken away all the confidence that he had.

"Jumpy?" Nathaniel asked, seemingly for all the world completely relaxed. "Take the nerves away. You are armed to the teeth with arrows and a bow. What more could you ask for?"

“A ability to use them” He muttered back as removing his sword… this would the first time he had used a real sword instead of his wooden one, and it would also be the first time he had been in any sense of danger rather than battling a tree. “Yea I am a little jumpy I’ve never felt like I was being hunted before.” The sword felt extremely heavy in his hands he stood back straight. “If I’m going to be a hero I need to act cool, and brave” He forced a smile. It was just as he had said that a scream rang in his ears. It took a moment to register yet once it did he started running towards it. It was a dumb move and everything in his soul was screaming to turn back… yet youthful feeling of indestructibility prevailed once again, his feet thumped away at the ground as to took him closer to the screams.

Nathaniel smirked and took to following him from above in the various canopies, from branch to branch, jumping lightly, keeping the spell working under his breath. The boy still didn't know he was an illusionist. Heh heh. Nathaniel knew he was being horrid, but sometimes...your nature wouldn't let you go. The screams were getting louder.

The thumping of Taliesin’s heart matched the beat of the thumping of his feet. He pulled his bow from behind his back and placing the arrow against the string. Just ahead of him a creature with black fur, razor teeth and claws loomed over a little girl who the apparently belong to. Letting the string go and the arrow hurtled towards its target… but with a blink of the eye it didn’t seem to hit its target only the tree right behind it. “Maybe it’s immune to arrows” He mumbled he had heard of creatures whose skin was that tough that arrows just bounced off. Building as much youthful courage as possible, he thundered towards the creature that had drool dripping from its jaws. Taliesin yelled loudly hoping to scare the creature away, he pulled out his sword and took a swipe just as a paw was about to crash into him, yet both his sword and the creature’s paw never made contact.

Nathaniel laughed and swun upsidedown just above them. He was grinning mischieviously. "Having any luck?" he inquired innocently.

Taliesin looked up at his friend, and smiled in a unsure way. “I think it’s a spirit… my weapons don’t work on it… “ He paused for a moment as looking at the screaming child and noticed for the first time that she was translucent, the spirit was trying to kill another spirit!! “Quick you’re a mage, maybe you can save the spirit child “ He asked looking at Nathaniel, Taliesin eyes wide and pleading, he had an innocent upbringing and the thought that this wasn’t real hadn’t yet dawned on his simple mind as he stood in between the spirit monster and the child. “Quick I don’t know how long I can hold him” Taliesin yelled as swinging his sword at the creature.

Nathaniel suddenly realised that Taleisin thought this was all real. He dismissed the illusion, and it semed to evap[orate like water. "Hey! Relax my friend...it was simply a illusion.." He jumped down. "I'm sorry. I couldnt' resist the temptation..."

Taliesin looked around for a moment not able to make sense of what had actually happened. “But I was… saving her” He mumbled in a daze. For a moment after registering what had happened anger flashed pass his eyes yet as always as quickly as his anger at being humiliated had came it was gone by the sudden entertainment of the whole thing. “Well you were going to train me, if it had been real I would have beaten it with my eyes close” He joked as closing his eyes and pretending to shoot an arrow.

Nathaniel frowned. "You know. Next time, make sure what it is. Real, or fiction. An enemy may decide to use that as a distraction from a real attack. And I promise you this. They won't jump down and correct your mistake."

“Right good point” he mumbled as looking around feeling a little deflated and foolish. The looking around the forest, a sly grin crept upon his face. “Since you could fool me, would you be able to do the same thing to a few of my friends” He used the term friend loosely when it came to those thugs. But the idea of see them quivering with fear would make this embarrassing circumstance worth wild.
