Avean walked out onto the jousting field and took a seat. She had never been here before so it was a first for her. Avean shuffled her feet on the ground and waited for Gil to get here.

It was the dead of night, the nearly full moon large in the sky, bathing the oblong stretch of dirt that was the Jousting Field in silver light. To Gil, it was entirely too bright, but he couldn't affect the weather. His skills lay in different areas. The dark clothed rogue entered through a wide gate into the arena, fenced about with raised stands encircling. In the darkness, anyone could be hiding up there under the shaded overhangs, but that didn't matter as long as they wouldn't interfere.
He walked closer to the center of the field before he spotted Avean and said in a loud whisper, "Avean! Avean! Come out here towards the center." He took his spot and leaned nonchalantly on one foot. This could prove to be interesting... very interesting.

Avean sat in the moonlight, being bathed in its beauty. Her eyes slowly opened as she saw a shadow move towards her. "Hello." she said, watching him move closer to her although he probably couldn't see her. Avean stood and smiled, thinking of how interesting this would be.

"Well." he said, rotating one shoulder to get the stiffness out. "I've done this once or twice before, so here's how it'll go down. We take our places- yes, stop right about there, that's good- then when I shout 'GO' we begin. I will give you the honor of the first move, my lady."
He shook out his sleeves and twiddled his fingers before settling into a relaxed position, one foot in front of the other, arms hanging straight down. Too many times he'd had to fight, yet never against a mage, and every time it was to kill. This time was different, in fact he hardly knew why he was here himself.
"We only fight until one has the clear advantage over the other, kay?" he called out, twiddling his fingers in anticipation. The feeling of battle was always an invigorating one, and this tenseness right before the first blows were to be thrown was a big part of that. He relished in it, letting the silence stretch for seconds on end.
"Are you ready, Avean? GO!!!"

Avean watched his anticipation with a smile. The moment he said 'go' she lifted her hands a yelled "Giganoreis" Giganoreis is the most powerful gravity blast, with its bone crushing potential and leathal effects it is most common among spells. A blast of blue light shot from her hand as her sweeping motion towards him brought more force. The gravity above him increase 100% and brought him to his knees. Avean kept at ready as she waited for his next move.

Suprised by the curtness and speed with which Avean cast her spell, Gil only had enough reaction time to pull out his twin daggers and cross his arms- quite a bad mistake. The gravity blast struck him and blasted him off his feet, stole the wind from his lungs, and sent him sailing through the air to skid through the dirt twelve paces back.
He could only gasp for air for a few moments, trying his hardest to lever himself onto his feet but failing. 'From what I know,' he thought through the haze of pain, 'A spell that powerful should have taken much of her magical energies.' It was perhaps his only prospect for victory, to wear her out enough that he could strike and gain the advantage quickly.
Not wanting to be seen as yielding so early, Gil took a deep breath and rolled quickly to the side then into a crouch. A discouraging amount of distance separated the two, and she most certainly had the advantage at that range. 'I can only hope i'm fast enough to evade her next spell.' he added mentally, dropping into a stance that would allow him to leap quickly in any direction to dodge the next attack. Unable to fight her at his range, he waited for it to come.

"Ion Gravirei" she yelled after taking a second to contemplate what her next move was. Her hand moved in a jolting movment like she was to grab something quickly. Ion Gravirei is another powerful spell that is quite useful. It uses the wind to sweep everything from sight but Avean made sure it wasn't as powerful as it should be. She made it strong enough to knock him back down onto the ground, hoping it would weaken him. She swiftly pulled her cloak off and threw it to the side, waiting for his move.

Being swept off his feet and slammed into the ground a second time, and also losing his breath again in a rush, the thief had barely enough consciousness to growl, "Damnation!" This was turning out pretty badly, and he was quickly learning that his speed had nothing on her spellcasting. He would need a different plan if he was going to win. Every bone in his body felt ground into dust, yet he still forced himself to spin into a crouch, if slowly. It was now or never, if he didn't do something she would pound him again and he really didn't know if he would be able to get up again or not. 'Best to not let that happen.' he groaned inwardly.
Reaching quickly into a pouch on his chest, Gil pulled a tiny pebble sized bead out and, flinging a sleeve across his eyes, threw it full force onto the ground in front of him, where the bead exploded in a blinding flash of white light. It was a concoction of his own that he found quite useful in escape tactics, and in a nighttime setting, where one's eyes were adjusted to the dark, it held even more potent effect.
Trusting that Avean was blinded enough to not have any aim, Gil moved as silently and quickly as he could on a curve toward her. If she fired another spell in an arc or a straight line in front of her, where she thought he still was, she would miss. He closed the distance quickly, yet was still a good ten paces away.

Avean fell to the ground, her eyes blinded by a white light. She rushed to her feet and looked around, a blur to everything. "Gikor!" she shouted at the spot where he had been but was confused. He was no longer there but was heading towards her. "Seoshi!" she growled, holding her hands out as a silver bubble encased her. Seoshi was a simple shielding spell that would keep her safe from all attacks exept for lower attacks as if he were to get underneath the bubble and catch her by the feet.

It worked! She blasted some spell off in the wrong direction, and a grin split his face as he brought his daggers to bear. He wouldn't harm her, simply get her in a position where she would be forced to relent, then he would be the victor. She was putting up quite a fight, and he even felt a pang of guilt that he had blinded her like that. 'Stop it. You're in the middle of a fight, now focus.'
His black overcoat blew wide as he swung his weapons, only to have them reflect off of a silvery bubble she cast around herself. Tricky! Using the momentum from the deflection, Gil spun a loop in the air and landed a few paces back from her. It was a toss up as to whether she held the shield out of sheer will or by desperation, either way he could wear at it.
Staying back a few steps, Gil reached into another pouch and procured a flat, wide stone like he would use to skip on a pond. It worked wonders cracking a thug's skull, and would service here as well. Flinging it sidearm like he always did, he watched it reflect off the projected shield to seemingly no effect, yet he hoped her resolve was weakening. Sidestepping so she wouldn't cast from where he had thrown the first time, he reached for another projectile.

Avean let the shield pass, giving him a chance to redeem a pass at her. Though her eyes still burned she kept focused, her hands out in front of her.

Winking slyly to himself, Gil swept in as the shield dropped and fell past her in the hopes of bring a dagger to bear on her throat, then she would have to surrender, when unfortunately his knees gave out.
The thief sprawled face first in the dirt not a step from where Avean lay, cursing himself and cursing the day he wanted to fight a mage, feeling his entire being throb with pain from the previous spells he'd endured. A good thief was supposed to have more endurance than this. He had traveled so much... but he really had had no personal training in his combat skills, he was all self taught and still had a lot to learn. His adrenaline rush gone, he felt barely able to move. "Ye Gods, that packed a punch." was all he said at a barely audible level. Trying his best to push himself to his feet, one dagger stuck blade first in the ground out of his grasp, he shuddered, then fell back to the ground.
"Well." he said weakly, "You gave it your all and it looks like it was enough to pulverize me. I relent." The thought came that he was still face first in the dirt, and he raised his head slightly to look at her. "I'm never going head on against a magic user ever again, gods know that's for sure. Now are you going to help me up or what." Though he hated surrendering, he had no choice, it was that or be beaten further into submission. A short battle, in the long run, but with mages, he guessed, it was probably like that. Bang bang, you're dead type of deal.

Avean smiled, holding her hand out for him to take. "Come on...are you okay?" she asked, helping him up. Her clear blue eyes searching through his pain, hoping he was alright. Avean watched him intently, hoping his leg didn't buckle again.

"Whew, no injuries..." he said, "But whatever that was it feels like you ground my bones to dust." Now that she had an arm around him he could stand. His calm brown eyes looked up to the moon, and he saw hardly any time had passed, moments, really. Had it all gone that quick?
"Sorry about the Flash Bomb." he said, chuckling weakly, "I hope your eyes are fine?" he commented as they made their way toward the entrance once more. If there was one thing he had learned about this encounter, it was that the only way he would ever overcome a mage was taking one by surprise. In straight up battle, in a real fight where ones life was on the line, he would be dead meat. "Maybe we should head back to the Tavern."

Avean chuckled. "My visions a bit blurry but that bomb thing was pure genius." she commented, nodding slightly. She helped him to the gates and looked up to the area where the travern was. "Drinks on me." she said leading him up to the tavern.
