Emma wandered the alleys and thought of her future. She did not think she would ever be in a high status. Emma started to think about this more and more as she wandered the alleys more and more. What was to become of her? What was her future? Who was she going to be?

The girl, her head down in deep thought, did not see the man who removed himself from an alley wall to slam one palm into the other side of the narrow passage. The sound reverberated with a loud THWACK, just like he had hoped. He was a sight to see; a rather tall man in a long dark trench coat and messy black hair, stubble covering some of his chin. To her, he probably looked like any other street thief.
"This is no place to wander." he commented in a low, growling voice. It was mean, really, this was nothing like him to terrorize lone women but the opportunity presented itself and with any luck she would get enough sense not to walk blindly about a place inhabited by the scum of the earth. Really, he had been wandering himself, but his wits were about him, like they always were. Investigating would be a better word... you could always tell the state of a city by it's slums. And in truth these weren't as bad as some. But still quite dangerous to a young, unarmed girl.
"Being that absentminded around here can get you killed, or worse." he added, blinking slightly when he realized that made no sense.

Emma looked up and saw a rather tall man in a long dark trench coat and messy black hair, stubble covering some of his chin. "I think I can protect myself if something happens." Emma held out her hand concentrated. After 11 seconds of concentrating a sword appeared in her hand.

"That's a nice trick." he said, sarcasm dripping from his voice, "But do you really think a thug is going to be nice enough to wait while you cast your little spell? Hah. Be glad i'm not the sort to prey on young women like you." shaking his head, Gil turned to go, hands in his pockets.
Quite suddenly, Gil pivoted on a heel and in a rush of motion he had a dagger quivering in front of Emma's nose. "That quick." he said quietly, after a moment had passed. The girl seemed unphazed, so with a sigh Gil sheathed his weapon and walked past her out the other side of the alleyway, this time to really leave. Hopefully she would learn the lesson and go.

Emma growled and she continued to walk. The sword vanished from her hand and then as she concertrated again she looked back. The man was still in sight. Fire was coming from her hand. She leaned back and threw it at him. Emma laughed as it hit him. Emma grinned. He deserved that.

'It's a sad thing when a girl like her doesn't know better than to walk headlong into a den of thieves and robbers.' mused Gil, hands in pockets and walking away in that slouched, uncaring manner. 'I bet her parents would have a few choice words if they knew where she was, hah, she really thinks she's capable of defending herself, unarmed and-'
"Damnation!" roared Gil, leaping three feet into the air and crashing back to the ground as the fireball struck his back and flared out over his entire coat. Quickly he tore it off and started beating it on the ground, dust kicking up everywhere as the magical fire refused to go out. In frustration he hurled it to the ground and started stomping on it, which only served to heat up his boots until it felt as if his feet were melting. Then, as quickly as they had come, the flames went out. Gil went to his knees in front of the burned, torn tatters of what was left of his overcoat.
"Too many mages in this city." he murmured, sighing and running a hand through his hair. "You can't turn a corner without bumping into one and having thunder called down on your head or your best coat turned to roast. That really was my good coat, too." Realizing he was rambling, Gil sifted dejectedly through the tatters, trying his best to salvage his implements. A pouch here, a bag there, most of it luckily seemed intact, the money pouch filled nearly to bursting he quickly secreted away as best he could in his slacks.
Standing and giving a quick wave to the sorceress at the end of the alleyway he called, "My apologies, miss!" and was away, getting out of sight as quickly as his legs would take him. A sleeveless black shirt was certainly not enough in this weather, with the first snow coming any day now, Gil shivered and hugged his arms. Too many cursed mages.

Emma laughed harder than when she tipped a bucket of urine on someone as the man ran away. "Bye" She called out laughing so hard. Emma loved to be a mage so much! She turned with a large grin spread across her face and started to wander the alley alone.

At least she had found the answer to her questions. What was to become of her? A great and fantastic mage. What was her future? To live her life and giving everyone what they deserve. Who was she going to be? A powerful mage who will become a witch.

Kaldaka had been standing in the shadows merely watching when she saw the fire-ball come out and hit the man. Her lips compressed together, she strolled out towards the young mage. "Hello, young miss," she said quietly, playing with her dagger. "You shouldn't be out here you know. No matter how powerful a mage you are, I could have brought you down in an instant wih one flick of my wrist. You wouldn't have known what had hit you."

"I'm sorry I've done my buisness here." Emma turned and walked away towards the centre of the city. She had done enough fighting people for one day. Emma knew that the girl would try to challenge her like the other man, bit she would not exept it. She was going.

Kaldaka sighed with relief as the mage walked off. "That's a good thing," she whispered softly. "A very good thing."
